I've seen people post things saying the operator verify the new .V21 software. Does this mean Vodafone, O2, Orange, 3 etc?

I've got an unbranded Black N97 purchased in Russia product code 0586703. I'm still stuck on v 12.0.026 and have been since last September. At first I thought that Nokia had not got around to customizing the 2.0 update for Russia but a search today found the following Russia specific product codes for the N97.

Checking on the Nokia's version checker I see that my phone, and its white equivalent, are stuck on 12.0.026 but the other four Russian product numbers (those with QW at the end of their descriptions) are already being offered 21.0.045. Can anyone tell me what QW stands for and maybe suggest why this discriminatory treatment is happening?

I was a ten year user of Nokia phones and had never owned any other brand until I bought an iPhone two years ago. Last summer I returned to the Nokia fold and purchased an N97 but unfortunately I have never been so disappointed by any purchase in my life. Was I really foolish to think that paying EUR 650 for an unbranded N97 would allow me to have a satisfactory ownership experience without having to jump through the hoops that I had to keep a branded iPhone unlock. Now it looks like the only way to get current software for my N97 is to again delve into the world of hacking and change my product code which is just the kind of thing I was trying to get away from.

Think I have some answer to us happy owners of "lost product codes". I just back from one of multibrand service centres with v21 onboard! And here's what I heard from engineer fixing my n97 (don't know how much it's true but sounds reasonable):

look at description behind your product code - there are two distinctive names "N97_<country>_CV" and "RM50x_<market>_<country>...". If first is yours then you'll probably never have FW newer than v12. First ones (or country versions) was first phones to enter some markets and was "stuffed with plenty of useless apps - often local - just to show coolness of new device" (engineer quote). "RM..." is global variant without these apps. So, Nokia is not going/able to support all these apps in v2x. Solution is to visit nearest service centre and fix product code. This guy inoficially  told me it's possible to fix pc even at home with some software, but personally I don't think it's a good idea.

And finally this guy opened back cover and pressed with his thumbs around camera lens saying this is to fix GPS . I don't know if new Maps are better or this trick really helped but I've not seen any drops to 0 km/h speed so far (12 km trip in a city).

When the N97 21.0.045 software was released, I stated only that "country (SIM-free) and operator versions [would be] following over the next few days and weeks." 

In some cases operator approval may be quite quick. Approval time depends on the levels of customization requested by an operator and then the operator test and approval time. Once an operator has approved the software for use on their variants, Nokia endeavours to release it as soon as possible - usually within a few days.

Please note that some operators may not approve this release, for their own reasons. 

Please also note that even "unbranded" phones may still require customization and local approval for use in a certain country, region or wholesale re-seller.

I'm still stuck at v.12. I understand the de-branding story but what I don't get is WHY? I mean aren't all the N97's identical, hardware and software wise? Why aren't the updates available to all at the same time? What does the update of my device have to do with my carrier or the continent I'm on? Why would I loose my warranty if I change my product code? I had to wait months for v12 to.

I can understand that Firmware may be delayed due to various customizations but what about handsets bought directly from the Nokia online store? I bought a white n97 from the store on pre-order, expecting this to be one of the first in line for updates. but it's normaly between 2-6 weeks before i get them. The product code is 0587240 (generic white UK CV)

my current version is 20.0.019 but nokia software updater shows that no update is found so kindly add my product code also to your database and help me to experience the better stability and performane of my hand set.

My N97 Vodafone does not show the 21.0.045 as current for it. Also SW update for maps 3.3 and and N-gage fail to update? Which is best to use Nokia Updater. Nokia suite or OVI Suite/ please model RM505

I bought a Black N97(0586701) from the store on pre-order which I payed lots of money to be one of the first with N97 , expecting this to be one of the first in line for updates. But somehow you are not taking CARE of the first loyal customers that have paid lots of money and are still BEGGING for an updateded software. I come here to this forum at least 3 times per day looking for ANY type of update, since it first came to the markt. Still no update for 0586701 direct from NOKIA warehouse and no communication when will appears. This is very sad and not accpetable from the largest phone company.

I have 3.03 on my Firmware v12 and it works

Download the 3.03 to your Computer and install it with Nokia Pc Suite

My phone is reporting new version 21.0.045 but with info it can be updated only by computer.

1. I tried with Nokia software updater but it can't find update for my phone!?!?!

2. I deinstalled all NOKIA software at my computer.

3. With Nokia clenaer deleted all Nokia stuff left over on my computer.

4. Reinstall Nokia PC Suite

5. Reinstall Nokia software updater - it still can't find update for me phone

6. Executed hard reset  on my phoen. Still no go

7. Installed Nokia Ovi suite - it CAN find new update for my phone BUT CAN'T update it... it reports "internal error" after some time...

I tried everything...

What else can i do?
