Nsu news: Microsoft Vista support RESTORED! (9.7.08)

[ Edited ]
Hi all,

we have just received the following information from the Nokia Software Update team:

----------
Microsoft Vista support temporarily removed

Support for Microsoft Vista has temporarily been removed from the Nokia Software Updater. This is due to recent changes in certain Microsoft Vista configurations that cause the Nokia Software Updater to become unstable. Other Microsoft Operating Systems are not affected. Support will be reintroduced as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Re: Nsu news: Microsoft Vista support temporarily removed

Dear Nokia Support

May be the NSU software must checking the OS first and tell the user THIS WARNING before upgrading their phone. Many user in this forum cant switch on again their phone after they use NSU with Vista. The Simple answer is take the Phone to nearest Nokia Care Center. But how far the nearest from home...

Best Regard

Re: Nsu news: Microsoft Vista support temporarily removed

Does the difficulty with Updater in Vista also apply to WinXP Pro Service Pack 3? I am unable to update either PC Suite or Updater since I installed Service Pack 3. PC Suite in the previous edition works fine, and includes the updater. But the standalone Updater will not operate, since it wants to update, and is unable to update. The error in attempting to install both software programs is the same: "The Windows installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in Safemode or if theWindows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." I have made two calls to Nokia support in the US, without being able to resolve this.

Re: Nsu news: Microsoft Vista support temporarily removed

Could someone give us any information when Vista will be supported again? I thought this maintenance break was to bring Vista support back to life, but it wasn't. What's going on Nokia?

Re: Nsu news: Microsoft Vista support temporarily removed

I cant believe that Nokia have not released the firmware upgarade for the 0557135/20.0.016 on Vodafone contract. It was released to Nokia around 8/9th May! Why has it taken (so far) over 10 days to add it to NSU?

Well, you need to ask Vodafone about that as they are the ones approving all versions of their custom software. 10 days is nothing - 10 weeks might be closer to the truth. (But what does this have to do with the Vista issue?)

Re: Nsu news: Microsoft Vista support temporarily removed

I really think this sucks pretty much. - This is bad customer service. Of course softwareissues will show up once in a while, this is fragile technology and we have to accept that, but when something like this happens, I expect Nokia to come with some sort of statement Asap.
Are there like half a billion vista users or more i the world? And 1 in 3 cellphones are a nokiaphone. And there are like 2 cellphones per human beeing in this world in average. Hmmm, at some point, if I've done my math correctly, you will come across someone who has a nokia phone and vista on their computer. Hello, did you think we wouldn't notice it?

Yes, my N95 8 gb device "died" while updating the firmware a little while ago, and guess what? - there where no warnings from nokia anywhere even though i red in different forums outside nokia that this issue had been known for a while. And that they had called nokia servicedesk and sent mails...

pfff... this is just great.

I just think it is business common sense and an attntion to their clients to keep us informed daily on this post on this issue.
Also, they should come forward and tell us more about the problem. Nobody likes to be in the dark. And it just takes them a couple of lines every two days.
