we have just received the following information from the Nokia Software Update team:
----------
Microsoft Vista support temporarily removed
Support for Microsoft Vista has temporarily been removed from the Nokia Software Updater. This is due to recent changes in certain Microsoft Vista configurations that cause the Nokia Software Updater to become unstable. Other Microsoft Operating Systems are not affected. Support will be reintroduced as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We are pleased to announce that the Nokia Software Updater once more supports Microsoft Vista.
We are very sorry that many of you have been unable to update your devices, and we are sorry that you have had to wait so long.
Thank you very much for sending us your log files and for giving feedback on the Beta release.
The latest version of Nokia Software Updater (1.4.49) is now available from www.nokia.com/softwareupdate or your local Nokia support pages.

May be the NSU software must checking the OS first and tell the user THIS WARNING before upgrading their phone. Many user in this forum cant switch on again their phone after they use NSU with Vista. The Simple answer is take the Phone to nearest Nokia Care Center. But how far the nearest from home...
Best Regard

Are there like half a billion vista users or more i the world? And 1 in 3 cellphones are a nokiaphone. And there are like 2 cellphones per human beeing in this world in average. Hmmm, at some point, if I've done my math correctly, you will come across someone who has a nokia phone and vista on their computer. Hello, did you think we wouldn't notice it?
Yes, my N95 8 gb device "died" while updating the firmware a little while ago, and guess what? - there where no warnings from nokia anywhere even though i red in different forums outside nokia that this issue had been known for a while. And that they had called nokia servicedesk and sent mails...
pfff... this is just great.

Also, they should come forward and tell us more about the problem. Nobody likes to be in the dark. And it just takes them a couple of lines every two days.
