Traveling to China, will my N95 8gig (Vodafone) work out there?

Hi guys,

Will my N95 8gig phone work in China? If i get a power plug adaptor will it be ok to charge the phone out there? And does anyone know if the roaming stuff will work ok? Will I be able to use GPS (Nokia Maps) and access my contract internet (I guess this applies to roaming restrictions or something?).

Cheers,

my advise to you is get your phone unlocked and use a chinese sim card when you are there
trust me roaming rates are VERY EXPENSIVE!!!!
its much cheaper to do it this way
you can get your phone unlocked from the network for 15pound

It's a quadband phone, so it will work on all GSM frequencies. China has no 3G networks in operation, so that side of things won't work.

You can download any maps you like from Nokia Maps, the only real limit is the space left available in your mass memory. You would, of course, have to purchase the additional licence for Chinese maps.

You should be able to use the web over GPRS provided that your operator has roaming agreements with the Chinese operators, but check before you go what you will be charged because the cost could be huge.

Thanks guys, excellent advice!
Will there be any issues with voltage or power use when I charge the phone over there? My phone was bought in the UK.

Nope - just buy any UK-China adapter from the airport before you leave. I've used a few phones (N95 included) and a laptop in China with a European charger with no problems.

I'm 99% sure any UK data rate plans will not work and you might pay thru your nose - but check with Vodafone. And install Chinese maps on your memory card + disable network usage for Maps when you're out there (they might be in Chinese though?)
