Re: OVI Maps started Ignoring Downloaded Map Data

Right then done some further investigation this evennig.

I have re-installed the latest version on Maps via a sis file extracted from the Map Updater process.

Then  I started OVI Maps a permitted the application drive to create a clean version of the cities folder and qf file on the E: drive. I then copied this file and folder to the F:drive.

I then ran maps loader to re-install the necessary map and voice files. I then copied the cities folder and qf file to the F:drive.

I then started OVI Maps and then copied the Cities folder and qf file to the F:drive.

I also copied each set of the cities folder and qf file to my PC.

Checking these files and folders I have found that some files are downloaded via OVI Maps on the first run of OVI Maps after running Nokia Map Loader. This includes the Safety Camera Warner file. Therefore I have kept a copy of the Post map Loader set and the Post first run versions of the cities folder and qf file on the F: drive. This way if I loose the connection betwee OVI Maps and the data on the E: drive I can still get Maps up and running again without the need for anything other than my phone.

This is not a solution, but more of a work-around whilst wiating for Nokia to sort the cause.

Re: OVI Maps started Ignoring Downloaded Map Data

I should add that through comparing the different versions of the cities and qf file (i.e. Clean (delete cities folder and qf file and then start Maps), Post running Map Loader (adding UK, Republic of Ireland and UK Female), Post first Maps run after Runnning Map Loader) I have found that if you have a poor network connection the first time you run Maps on your phone after running Map Loader, following generating a clean Cities folder adn qf file you may not see safety cameras as the safety camera db is downloaded OTA at this point. I don't know what else it can screw up.

I live in a poor reception area and when ran Maps for the first time after running Map Loader I had poor reception and I had not safety cameras. I then deleted the cities folder and qf file and copied the Post running Map Loader (adding UK, Republic of Ireland and UK Female) files back to my E: drive and moved to a good reception are (standing in the bathroom on the third floor of the house with the Velux window open sticking my arm out of the roof (the things we do)). This time I had good reception and Maps downloaded c.900kb straight away and I then had safety cameras showing correctly. There are a number of other files that maps downloads at the same time but as yet I am unaware what affect they have.

Re: OVI Maps started Ignoring Downloaded Map Data

Hi!

My maps disappeared for the 4th time now. But after the 3rd time, I made a backup copy of the cities folder an the qf file on the memory card. So after the maps disappeared for the 4th time, I deleted the old qf file and cities folder and copied both backup files to mass storage. And the maps were there again!

This is a good solution if you're abroad and don't want to download your files again and again

Re: OVI Maps started Ignoring Downloaded Map Data

try this:
used Y-Browser or x-plore and set the attribute to "System" in folder cities (no diskcache - maploader)
and 'a temporary solution but it should not cancel more.
Sorry my very bad english.

As a last resort I have set read only attribute to cities folder after all data is loaded.

Will report after few hours/days.

Re: OVI Maps started Ignoring Downloaded Map Data

I keep getting an error in maploader saying i don't have a valid map drive or am using an old version of maps. even though maploader detects the drive ok and i have the latest maps version. it still allows me to install maps though

Re: OVI Maps started Ignoring Downloaded Map Data

I think you can ignore this "warning". File system is badly screwed on Nokia N97 and Maps 3.x.

If your maps are working all is cool. Nokia will fix issues soon. LOL.

Re: OVI Maps started Ignoring Downloaded Map Data

I have been using Maps 3.x over 24 hours after my last post. Read only attribute is set for cities folder.

NO DATA LOSS.

All map functions are normal. You just CAN NOT use Maploader if read only attribute is set. That is not a problem, load your data and set +r attribute.

Re: OVI Maps started Ignoring Downloaded Map Data

[ Edited ]

I removed maps 3.1 this morning and went back to maps 2. This phone isn't really that much use as a navigation device. Maps 3.1 constantly lost GPS connection and showed my location about 2 streets behind me.

I tried using Garmin XT (My 5800 ran this flawlessly). the N97 seems to struggle with it, taking on average 15secs to refresh the map data on screen and also showed my location either 2 streets behind or somewhere the other side or town

I would have thought with the faster processor these apps wouldn't be a problem for the N97 but they just run so slow

Quick point of interest for everyone. There is no OVI Maps version 3.1. It's just a numbering error. If you go to your about screen you will find that it is still version 3.01. Misnumbering by the Software Update team. It's happened with a number of the apps.
