"Interesting" find, Axel....
Makes one wonder, doesn't it??
Having said that, a couple of posters on HERE have actually loaded Maps 3, onto their THIRD or FOURTH N97 (which they received, bearing V11 s/w), and Maps 3 works fine, apparently.. I still think it's a case of the "original" N97s' were the cause of problems, but the later units were fine??
I am still running Maps v2 on mine (works perfectly), until such times as I am convinced it's NOT Maps v3 which is the root cause (which is doubtful)
Cheers

I upgraded to v12.0.024 this afternoon, did a hard reset, and Ovi Maps 3 does not appears any more in SW update app. So yes it seems to have been removed for the N97.
Btw, I haven't fully tested but my GPS doesn't seems to have improved ![]()

Maps 2 and 3 didnt really make differenct on my N97.
Its the hardware that seems defective, not the software.
But now it seems like Nokia is guessing and excluding pieces
that could produce more errors.
Fine, but please send me another hardware fixed one.

sorry josef,

i wonder what happens if i install this version now.
will i have to call the nokia support then and beg them to reactivate my maps2 license?
last time it took them 6 days to do so, and i had to call them 3 times.
no, thank you!
since im sure its my fckd-up handset, im not going to spend another dime for calling
this company.

@AxelJ - I'm in exactly the same boat! I'm fed up of returning my handset to Voda UK just to get another that doesn't work. I have Quickoffice installed now, so whenever I change the phone I have to send a support request to them to change the Imei number with them.
I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you now outside your 28 days? do you just get a swap of a carcass for a carcass?

The following statement was released RE: the removal of Maps 3.0 for N97:
The Ovi Maps 3.0 version for touch devices (Nokia N97) is temporarily not available via the Nokia Software Update and www.nokia.com/maps website as we are making adjustments to further improve the overall maps and navigation experience. We are certain that the application will be back in Nokia Software Update and www.nokia.com/maps website shortly where consumers can easily upgrade to the new version of Ovi Maps.
Cheers

Thanks for your reply cbidlake!
What I do not understand is the fact, that there are only 2 touch devices out there:
The N97 and the 5800.
For the N97 we are down to version 2 again.
For the 5800 the version 3 is still availble.
How comes?
And for now, my "overall experience" with Maps 3 was kind of ok.
Only my N97 doesnt have a decent satellite connection.
So I would need some "further improvement" of my hardware i guess ![]()
I am waiting for the UPS guy to show up at my door as we speak right now.
And i hope that he brings a new N97, with the mentioned "further improvements" ![]()
This would be my 3rd then. And no, the nokia care center couldnt help me before.
But thank you very much for the info that Maps3 will be online soon!
Cheers, Axel

Hi Axel,
The N97 was taken down and not the 5800 as there are some issues that affected the N97 specifically.
Glad to hear that the overall experience with Ovi Maps was ok - hopefully with the new release of Maps and your soon to arrive replacement N97 it will be great ![]()
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,
Well, i don't exactly understand the difference of the N97 and the 5800.
I thought that the chips and the processors are the same and since the gps chip is the
same manufacturer/model too, and it has to be soldered in the phones exactly the same way with the
exact same electrical circuits, i dont understand why software does run on one device and not
on another. But well, thats just my amateur point of view ![]()
Hope that the N97 specific bugs will be ironed out soon. At least i am glad, that
SOMETHING happens at all ![]()

Hi kevin,
yes, ive read it ![]()
thank you very much!
There is another fact (!) that i dont understand.
Obviously there are many people out there who own a N97 with Maps3
and dont have ANY issues, just as long as the N97 is from a later batch of
production. Does this mean, that everyone with an early handset has a
problematic one and would be advised good to swap it?
cheers

Yes, I think that would be VERY sound advice Axel.
For anyone to attempt a "workaround" for "shoddy goods", supplied by Nokia would be somewhat defeatest.
The problem lies with the supplier/manufacturer, and t is for THEM to sort out their manufacturing processes, and quality control, and LISTEN AND REACT to their faithful customers....
Cheers
