Hi,
I have a Nokia E52 phone, and I'm pretty pleased with that phone. I have a CAR usb adaptor for charging different units (mp3 players, GPS recievers, phones, etc.). Its an adaptor that plugs in the lighter and has an usb plug-in in witch you plug in the computer usb cable for those devices. I have charged a fiew mp3 players and an HP IPAQ phone. The same IPAQ I have chareged with the Nokia's charger for the E52 (AC-10E). The IPAQ and the E52 have the same MicroUSB plugin for charging and data transfer, they both have USB cables that can charge the phones through a computer, and used for data tranfer.
The problem here is that the Nokia E52 does not charge through the cars lighter adaptor. But it charges when pluged in a computer USB. Please tell me if I'm doing something wrong, may be the cars lighter adaptor, or the phone itself?

I have looked in the user manual and it says
"Charging with the USB data cable may not work if you use a USB hub. USB hubs may be incompatible for charging a USB device.
......
1. Connect a compatible USB device to your device using a compatible USB data cable."
Well my car lighter usb charger should be compatible for charging USB devices, first because this is it's only function, and second, because it charges other devices like mp3 players and phones and even with the same usb cable. Is it the E52 it self or is it in something else. Should i try with another car lighter usb charger or what? Does anyone have the same problem?

I found the solution. The lighter adaptor outputs 5.0V and i thing it is not enought for the charging. It's enought from the home power outlet but not from the cars outlet. I bought a special charging kit from OXO power http://www.avenir-accessories.co.uk/accessories-ox
My advice is to try the charging kit with your phone in the store before buying.

To enable your generic USB charger to charge your E52, you need to open your charger and connect D+ and D- with a resistor of max 200 Ohm (you can short them as well).
If you do not feel lucky about opening your charger, do this with a USB A/A extension cable. Rip isolation off, short green and white while leaving black and red intact, tape it and you are done.
When your charger outputs 5V, the E52 will draw 350mA for charging.
With 6V output, E52 draws 580mA.
With 6.5V, E52 takes 800mA.
