Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

I bought a nokia e51 a month ago, this is my first nokia device and I'm totally impressed about it and the symbian os of course.
However I got a problem with the date...

The phone works fine during the week but when Saturday comes the phone start saying that it is Friday. I have investigated the problem in details, at 23:49 of any Friday the phone says it's friday (fantastic :smileyhappy: ), then comes midnight and the phone says it is Saturday, so everything works fine until I turn off the phone. When I restart it (the following morning) it start saying that is still Friday! GRRRRR!!! I hate that.

Then I change the date one day forward... and when Sunday comes it says it is Saturday. I change again the date and on Monday It restart working fine until the next week end comes.

I don't think that is an hardware problem, I have reset the phone 2 weeks ago and last week it worked... bot today it comes out with the problem! :smileysad: I think there is something in my calendar appointments that make it crazy...

Anyone get the same problem??? Thanks in advance for the support,

bye bye

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

I did not have this problem yet (in 4 months), but there have been other posts in the last couple months where people had time/date/calendar issues with E51

Ah yes, welcome to the club of the Nokia E51 timemachine owners. I've had the very same problem with mine.
My guess is that you have set up an alarm to go off on monday to friday only. Then when saturday (and sunday) come, instead of skipping the alarm, it sets the date back one day.
The solution: Only use normal (old style) alarms that will go off within the next 24 hours. Not alarms which automatically skips some weekdays. At least until a firmware update correct this.

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

Same issue here (also fully satisfied except for the date issue).

I use the alarm on weekdays and the phone date also seems to stall on fridays/saturdays. I had not investigated it as thourough as nerd81 yet, thanks a lot for that nerd81! :-)

But it indeed looks like it's related to the alarm combined with switching the phone off. I usually switch the phone off every day around midnight and on the next morning, but the last few days the phone has been off and today it's date is several days behind. It's tuesday the 25th now, but the phone still says it's saturday the 22th, which (probably) is the day I turned the phone off.

(BTW: I also tried to switch on "Network operator time", but it does not fix the issue)

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

Yes, happened to me on saturday and then again this (monday) morning.

Quite annoying as I use the phone as a backup to wake me in the morning. At first it took me a while to understand that the phone decided it was friday all over again, on the other hand I was first glad to notice this morning that saturday was back. I did not se the problem on sunday though.

Yes I use an alarm set on workdays.

Sad, since the alarms are one small feature that looked much better than on my discarded SonyEricsson P990 (you couldn't even turn the phone off if you wanted alarms to go off!).

But overall I am very happy with this handset.

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

I recently updated the phone software to the latest version (don't recall which version it exactly was a.t.m.) hoping it would save the date problem....

But it did NOT help at all!

The update even seems to have made it worse. Before only the date was wrong under certain circumstances, as described above. But now it has become totally random, and it's both time AND date now. Sometimes it when I switch on the phone it silently has changed date and time to a random value, and other times it just has lost time and date and asks me to enter both.

Also I lost my Dutch language which makes writing SMS messages a pain in the ... And there is no way to switch back to the older software version it seems. The older version was a lot better in my case, so I really would to switch back if possible.

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

Did you try disabling the "Network Operator time" and see if you stil have the problem?

I have the same problem and in my case the Network Operator Time was switched off, I tried to enable it now and see if this solves the problem.

but for this I must wait for the next weekend and see if the problem is solved.

Yes I did, but it does not make any difference. (Actually it was disabled by default and I tried to enable it, but when I set the time it disables it again usually, I am not sure why it does that.)

Another disappointing thing is that, eventhough that I bought the phone here in a shop in the Netherlands it appears to be a phone that was supposed to be sold in Nigeria and the support centre says I have no warranty because of that. As said I bought it in the Netherlands, and the phone language was Dutch when I bought it, and the package does not say anything about the warranty restrictions so I had no way of knowing this when I bought the phone! They made me pay EUR 20 at the support centre for switching back the language which I lost during the update. I bought a Nokia because I thought I would not have any support issues then, obviously I have been naive again :-(

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

I've also upgrade the phone firmware but the problem is still there. :smileysad:

It's very annoying continuing wake up on monday and state your phone saying "it's friday... the last day of work of the week... tomorrow you can go to the sea!" but you know it's not true... it's monday, you have to put the date forward and start another week of hard work! :smileyhappy:

in my case the Network Operator Time setting solved the problem, perhaps your GSM providers are not compatible with this phone I don't know.

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

I over slept and was late for work one day before knowing this issue! since I relied on the E51 instead of an alarm clock!!

I even updated the software to 200.34.36 but the problem remains!

Is there a nokia technician passing by this forum maybe reading some of this???????

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

Good morning! After installing update 200.34.36 i think i overlooked the language item and now i am also stuck with
an English operating system. Is your Dutch problem resolved? The Dutch language is not selectable in the language menu. Wat can i do???

Hi Rolf,

probably my response is too late. Sorry, I did not notice it sooner.

The language problem was resolved at a nokia shop. But I had to pay them for the update :-(

About the date time problem:

I also never switch it off anymore. And press # to easily switch to silence mode at night. It drains the battery though compared to my normal usage, normally I would switch it off for at least 50% of the time. But I can confirm that it helps, I never experienced the clock bug anymore since I leave the phone on all the time.

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

This date problem is annoying and still exists in the latest E51-firmware 220.34.37.
I hope they are going to fix this some day as I prefer to turn off the phone on a daily basis rather than keeping it turned on.

I have an alarm which goes off on sunday mornings only and will see whether it solves the problem when I remove it.

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

Hi I got my NokiaE51 4 months ago and from that day on I can't install theme. I don't understand  because when I installed Fring( it's format"sis" like themes) so Fring worked but theme no. When I try to install theme in the end it always says "Certificate error. Contact the application supplier". So what can I do? Please someone help me!!!!

@len4yk: probably interesting (?), but surely totally off topic.

The problem (this topic is about) still isn't solved it seems, not even taken seriously I think. Nokia employees are very busy with denying guaranty whenever possible, after sales service obvisously has a *much* lower priority.......

Re: Nokia E51 - problems with Date!!

Hi all !

My phone's date keeps changing anytime! Not only friday-saturday, but anytime during the week!

And please note, I'm not switching my phone off at all !!!

So I would like to ask NOKIA people:  When would you like to solve this problem?
