Why must I be 18 or older to register?
You must be 18 or over to ensure that your participation in Nokia Support Discussions is legal. If you are under 18, please have a parent or guardian to register for you.

How will my registration information be used?

Browsing and Searching

How are Nokia Support Discussions organized?
Nokia Support Discussions are categorized into four broad categories: Mobile Products, Software, Tips and Troubleshooting, and Mobile Media.

The actual discussions have titles such as Phones, Communicators and Connectivity. The discussions consist of the topics that participants have posted and replies to these topics.

You can view and directly access all of the discussions directly from the main view of Nokia Support Discussions.

Please note that the discussions are currently in a pilot phase and that the discussion categorizations may change significantly during this pilot period.

What's the best way to look for information in the discussions?
If you're just browsing, click on a discussion that interests you and you will be directed to a list of all of the topics included in that discussion. Use the Previous and Next links to move through the topics.

If you're looking for an answer to a specific question, you may find it more effective to use the search function. Enter one or more relevant keywords and browse through the results to locate a topic that includes the information you're looking for.

How do I use the search function?
The search function is accessible at the top of the right column on every view of Nokia Support Discussions. Just enter one or more relevant keywords and click Search. A page of search results containing your keyword(s) will be displayed. Click on a likely result to be taken to that topic. If it seems like none of the results is suitable, try a different keyword or use Advanced Search.

Advanced Search allows you to limit your query to a specific discussion, specific parts of a post (subject vs. body), or a specific time period, or use several other criteria to narrow your search.

The search engine is not case-sensitive, so capitalization doesn't affect results.

What is user search?
User search allows you to search for fellow discussion participants. In this case, the keywords or characters you enter will be used to search the database of user names.

To access user search, click the User Search link provided in the Search Discussions box at the top right of every view.

Starting a Topic and Posting Replies

How do I start a new topic?
Before posting a new topic, please browse or search for an answer to your question from the existing topics. If you can't find an answer, start a new topic.

Please note: Before you make your first post or reply, please be sure that you're familiar with the Discussions Guidelines so you know what is expected of you and your posts.

  1. Log in.
  2. From the list on the main page, select the discussion that best matches your topic.
  3. From the discussion view, select the Start New Topic button that appears on the blue background at the top of the list. The post editor opens.
  4. Enter a subject for your topic that clearly and concisely describes the central issue.
  5. Enter the body text. Here you should be as detailed as possible, and include any information that may be relevant, for instance your phone model, accessory model, PC operating system and/or Bluetooth stack, any previous troubleshooting steps you may have taken, or anything else appropriate. The more information you can provide in your original post, the easier it is for other users to help you out.
  6. Once your text is ready, click Submit.
If you decide not to post a new topic after all, click Cancel to go back to the topic list.

How do I post a reply?
To post a reply to a topic you are reading:

  1. Click the reply button in the bottom right corner of the post. The post editor will open with the message subject pre-filled.
  2. Enter the text of your reply in the Body field. If you want to quote the text of the original post in your reply, click the Quote Post button.
  3. When your reply is ready, click Submit.
Your reply will appear within the topic you are replying to, and depending on the preferences you have set, either at the bottom of the list or the top of the list.

Please note: Please make sure that your reply is a reply to the original post. Highjacking someone else's topic (also known as threadjacking) with your own related or unrelated topic is bad discussion etiquette.

Please remember that your linking, like the rest of your post, should follow the Nokia Support Discussions guidelines. Links to irrelevant or inappropriate sites will be removed.

What happens when I rate a post as helpful or not helpful?
At the bottom right of each post, there is a place for you to indicate whether or not the post was helpful. Particularly if you found the post helpful, take a second to rate the post. This will increase the rating of the post and may help other participants to locate it.

You can only rate each post once.

How I edit or delete a topic that I have posted?
Once you post a topic, you have a ten-minute window to open it and edit your text, assuming that no one responds to it first. Once someone responds to it, you can no longer edit it.

Subscriptions

What are subscriptions?
Subscriptions are a convenient tool for tracking topics of interest to you. Setting up a subscription automatically sends you an email notification of any activity on the post, topic, or board you have subscribed to.

The email will be sent to the email address you have currently indicated in your Login Information.

You can subscribe to a post, a topic (in most cases this is the most useful choice), or an entire board.

In order to use subscriptions, you must be registered and logged in to Nokia Support Discussions.

How often are subscription emails sent out?
You can decide how often you receive subscription emails: every time someone posts, once a day, or once a week. You set this preference in the Subscriptions section of your Profile.

If you select the once a day or once a week options, a single email summarizing all activity on all posts, topics, or boards you have subscribed to is sent. This may be a good choice if you have set up multiple subscriptions.

Where can I manage my subscription preferences?
You can manage several subscription preferences - such as email format, whether you receive just the subject of each post and reply or the subject and body, and delivery frequency - from the Subscriptions tab of your Profile.

I have set up a subscription. How come I haven't received any subscription emails?
If you have set up a subscription but haven't received any subscription emails, there may be several issues involved:

  • It's possible that no one has posted to any of your subscriptions, in which case there would be no email.
  • Email address: The subscription emails are sent to the email address that you have indicated in your Profile. Be sure that the email address in your profile is the one that you want to receive subscription emails at.
  • Email format: If you have HTML selected as your email format and your email client can't process HTML email, the subscription emails can't be delivered.
  • Frequency preferences: If you have selected daily or weekly digest as your email delivery frequency, emails will be sent out only once a day or once a week. Again, if more than a day or week has passed and you have not received an email, it may be that there has been no activity in the items you have subscribed to.

Private Messages

What are private messages and when would I use them?
A private message is a private communication between you and another participant in Nokia Support Discussions. In order to use private messages, you must be registered and logged in.

When you write another user a private message it appears in their mailbox. Use a private message when you want to communicate something personal or off-topic. Please remember that the discussions guidelines regarding respect apply to private messages as well.

Do my private messages have anything to do with email?
Nokia Support Discussions private messaging works a lot like email, but the Nokia Support system relies on user names, not email addresses.

As a matter of fact, one of the big advantages of private messaging over email is that you don't have to know the other member's email address to send the note and you don't have to reveal yours. It's also easier to hold a quick conversation through it.

However, you will recognize an email-style interface in your private messaging system: you have separate folders for your inbox and sent mail.

Who can I send private messages to?
Any registered participant in Nokia Support Discussions can send any other registered participant a private message. If you are on the recipient's Ignore list, your message will not be delivered.

Can I block someone from sending me a private message?

Why can't I see a link to my messages?
